Clinton administration's chief antitrust lawyer said Thursday the federal review
of the proposed United Airlines-US Airways merger would look at
whether it might prompt further airline consolidation that would dampen
competition. The potential partners have argued against such an approach, saying
their deal should be examined on its merits alone.
