US
AIRWAYS STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO SEN. SCHUMER
ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 15, 2000 -- US
Airways issued the following statement in response to comments
by Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.):
Senator Schumer’s comments
regarding DC Air are disappointing and fail to
recognize the significant benefits this vibrant new entrant
carrier will bring to the marketplace.
The US Airways-United merger
will link communities throughout the country, including New
York, to the most extensive nationwide and global route
network in the world, substantially increasing competition and
enhancing the quality of air service to consumers, businesses
and communities alike.
Just as Jet Blue provides new
service from upstate New York to JFK Airport, the creation of
DC Air adds an independent new competitor that
will ensure continued access for dozens of smaller communities
in the eastern U.S., including upstate New York communities,
to the nation’s capital.
US Airways shares Senator
Schumer’s objective of ensuring high quality air service in
upstate New York and will continue to work with public
officials and private representatives to meet the air service
needs of the region.
