Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore Elected Chairman of Advisory
Commission on Electronic Commerce
WILLIAMSBURG, VA- Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today was
elected chairman of the federal Advisory Commission on Electronic
Commerce, a 19-member Congressional advisory panel charged with examining
the effects of taxes, tariffs and bureaucracy on the future of electronic
commerce. The panel is expected to issue its final report to Congress by
April 2000. Governor Gilmore was elected at the panel's first meeting.
"I am honored to have been elected chairman of this important
commission," Governor Gilmore said. "I look forward to working with the
many knowledgeable government and business leaders who sit on the panel. I
am confident that the commission will make even, balanced recommendations
that will positively impact the future of electronic commerce and the
Internet."
"This commission will produce what is arguably the most important
policy initiative of the Information Age," the Governor continued. "Our
recommendations on the critical issues of electronic commerce and tax
policy will have global implications."
The first meeting in Williamsburg will be held today and tomorrow.

The next meeting of the Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce will be
held in New York City, New York. Future meetings will take place in the
Silicon Valley and in Austin, Texas.
