HEADLINE: Senate Fight Ahead On Doctor Exemption
BODY:
Doctors opened a campaign to persuade the Senate to
exempt them from antitrust laws so they can bargain with insurance companies over fees and other issues.
The exemption was approved overwhelmingly in the House early yesterday, but its
prospects in the Senate were unclear.
The Senate majority leader, Trent Lott, Republican of Mississippi, said he
would stand in the way.
"I don't think we need more lawsuits in America," he said,
"and I don't think we need more, you know, labor unions in America."
