Vote "NO" on H.R. 1304, the "OPEC for Doctors" Bill

H.R. 1304 will give health professionals the unaccountability from antitrust laws to form cartels and act in anticompetitive ways, such as price-fixing and boycotts.

H.R. 1304 will cause health care costs to rise for both federal health programs and private health plans. Doctor income will rise, while consumers pay higher premiums, deductibles and co-payments or see their benefits reduced.

H.R. 1304 will diminish competition and consumer choice, as well as hurt quality of care. Consumers will be hurt most.

H.R. 1304 is special interest legislation that gives the antitrust exemption of a labor union, but the unaccountability of a cartel.

H.R. 1304 will legalize doctor cartels, price-fixing and boycotts.

H.R. 1304 will lead to much higher health care costs, less consumer choice, millions more uninsured, lower quality of care, and less competition.

This bill will take money from consumers and put cash in doctors’ pockets.

A new, independent study found that H.R. 1304 will increase private health premiums by 8.6 percent in 2003 and result in 3 million more uninsured Americans.

Doctor cartels will be free from any oversight and could legally price-fix and boycott.

Consumers will face higher out-of-pocket health costs, reduced wages and fringe benefits, possible loss of health coverage, less consumer choice, possible disruptions in access due to boycotts, and lower quality of care.

H.R. 1304 is anti-competitive, anti-consumer legislation.
