SUMMARY:
Committee Serial No. 106-229. Hearing before the Subcom on D.C. to examine efforts of the court-appointed Corrections Medical Receiver for the D.C. Central Detention Facility, commonly known as the D.C. Jail, to improve delivery of jail medical and mental health services, in light of concerns about increased correctional health care costs under the receivership.

Also examines Receiver issuance of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a one-year contact to manage D.C. Jail medical services once the receivership ends in Sept. 2000, and reviews possible improprieties in Receiver award of the contract to individuals employed by the Receiver at the time the RFP was issued.

The Corrections Medical Receiver for the D.C. Jail was appointed in 1995 by the U.S. District Court for D.C. in response to D.C. noncompliance with court orders issued in connection with consolidated class action lawsuits to address constitutional violations in the delivery of health care at the jail.

Supplementary material (p. 174-180) includes a table and correspondence.
