BUSH LOCKS UP SUPPORT FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT
National Police Group Endorses Texas Governor For President - Bush's Second Major Law Enforcement Endorsement in Two Weeks

Little Rock, Arkansas - "George W. Bush is the only candidate qualified to earn the support of the men and women who patrol America's streets", says Law Enforcement Alliance of America (LEAA) Executive Director, James J. Fotis.

The Law Enforcement Alliance of America presented George W. Bush with their official endorsement at a special meeting between the Governor and LEAA's leadership, held in Little Rock, Arkansas.

LEAA's announcement marks the second national police endorsement for Bush in two weeks. After the Fraternal Order of Police, the nation's largest police organization voted to endorse Bush over Vice-President Gore. "Law Enforcement groups like FOP and LEAA chose to ignore the false promises of the Gore campaign and support Bush because cops know that actions speak louder than words and Governor Bush has a proven track record of standing up for law enforcement officers and supporting tough on crime legislation", said LEAA Executive Director, Jim Fotis.

Fotis added that the police officers he talks to every day are tired of empty promises like the Clinton-Gore 100,000 cops lie. Recent studies by the DOJ and GAO have shown that not only did Clinton and Gore fall far short of the 100,000 cops promise, but that the number of new cops hired was actually less than the previous numbers under George Bush Sr.

Central to LEAA's support for Bush was the Governor's backing of H.R. 218, the national concealed carry for law enforcement bill. H.R. 218 is LEAA's hallmark legislation and in the years since LEAA Executive Director Jim Fotis developed the first draft of H.R. 218, it has become the single most important piece of legislation to rank and file police officers across the country.

The Law Enforcement Alliance of America has been working to galvanize law enforcement support for Bush all across the country for several months, starting with several law enforcement rallies held in South Carolina during the final days of that state's crucial primary.

With more than 65,000 members and supporters, the Law Enforcement Alliance of America is the nation's largest coalition of law enforcement professionals, crime victims, and concerned citizens dedicated to making America safer.
