SUPREME COURT MUST SAFEGUARD
WOMEN'S RIGHTS

Statement by Judith L. Lichtman, President
National Partnership for Women & Families

Today was a critical day for women and families across America as the Supreme Court heard arguments on the constitutionality of the Nebraska law that purports to ban so-called "partial birth abortions."  The Court's decision on this pivotal matter will either reaffirm or jeopardize the core principles of Roe v. Wade.

If found constitutional, this legislation will threaten a woman's right to choose, putting her health at serious risk.  The ban is unintentionally ambiguous and places millions of pregnant women in peril.

This case is not about a procedure, it's about safeguarding women's rights.  I am hopeful the Supreme Court will concur with the lower court and rule the ban unconstitutional.
