SUMMARY:
Committee Serial No. 106-108. Hearing before the Subcom on International
Economic Policy and Trade to examine the need for U.S. encryption policy
revisions to enhance the international competitiveness of U.S. companies
seeking to market
computer software used to protect the security of
computer network data.
Also considers H.R. 850, the Security and Freedom Through Encryption Act, to
liberalize
export controls on software with encryption capabilities, and affirm the right of U.S. persons
to use and sell encryption.
