MESSAGE COMING SOON!!
CSPP’s public policy agenda will focus
on export-control reform, trade, technology infrastructure and
access, and consumer privacy.
- CSPP’s Technology Controls
Committee, to be chaired by Lawrence Weinbach of Unisys Corporation
and Michael Capellas of Compaq, will focus on reform of the outdated
export control system and most immediately on passage of the Export
Administration Act as reported out 19-1 by the Senate Banking
Committee earlier this year. CSPP has called for a more modern,
effective export control regime that balances national security and
economic interests. The group will also examine the issue of digital
rights management and its impact on consumers and industry. -
Andy Grove of Intel Corporation, and Carly Fiorina of
Hewlett-Packard, will lead CSPP’s efforts through the Trade
Committee to encourage public policies that open international
markets to U.S. information technology products. CSPP will
specifically be engaged in ensuring China’s successful accession
into the World Trade Organization and in facilitating more open
trade with Latin American countries through multilateral and
bilateral negotiations such as the Free Trade Agreement of the
Americas (FTAA). CSPP has also called on Congress to grant the
President Bush Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) and will work to
support bipartisan efforts for its passage. - Finally, CSPP will
continue its efforts to promote policies that encourage continued
development of the emerging Networked World, where everyone and
everything will be connected at all times through technology. Lars
Nyberg of NCR Corporation and Christopher Galvin of Motorola will
chair the Networked World Committee. The Committee will focus on
increased allocation of spectrum and auction reform and faster
broadband deployment in order to expand the Networked World
infrastructure and facilitate access to Networked World
technologies. In addition, CSPP will advocate for personal data
protection for all consumers in the Networked
World.
