CONGRESSMAN JOHN
SULLIVAN CO-SPONSORS PRO-LIFE LEGISLATION
Resolution Protects Parental Consent Mandates for
Minors Seeking Abortions
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sullivan today announced
his co-sponsorship of the Child Custody Protection Act. The
resolution would amend the current federal law to prohibit
transporting minors across state borders to obtain an abortion
without parental consent.
"It is important for parents
to know when their children are having major surgery – especially
when the operation ends a life," said Congressman John
Sullivan. "This legislation protects the rights of the parents
and the health of the child."
Specifically, the Child
Custody Protection Act amends the federal criminal code to prohibit
transporting an individual under the age of 18 across a state line
to obtain an abortion. This action would violate the right of
a parent where the state requires parental involvement in a minor's
abortion decision.
"Children are the most precious
members of society," Sullivan added. "We must protect both the
born and unborn and ensure parents are aware of their children's
life-changing decisions."
The House of Representatives
is expected to vote on this legislation later this
month. |
