1969.2 That AMWA encourage counseling with regard to abortion both in group and individual medical practice.
1981.1 1982.1 That AMWA support a woman's right to access to abortion.
1988.1 That AMWA strongly reaffirm its pro-choice stand on abortion; That AMWA support the development and distribution of safer and more effective abortion technologies; That AMWA oppose legislation that would prevent health care providers from discussing, where medically appropriate, abortions as a medical option if the provider receives any monies from a federal agency; and That AMWA strongly recommend that the AMA and AOA take a similar position.
1989.1 That AMWA continue to support a woman's right to choose abortion without government intervention and without restrictions placed on her physician's medical judgment or conscience; and that AMWA continue to work with medical and women's organizations to fight any erosion of the right to choose when and whether to bear children, without legal intervention or consequence.
1989.2 That AMWA condemn the actions of Operation Rescue and all other unlawful attempts to restrict women's access to abortion and to women's health clinics.
1989.3 That AMWA reiterate its support for an emancipated minor's access to health care services, including abortion, without the requirement of parental notification or consent; and that AMWA support a woman's access to abortion without the requirement of spousal or partner notification or consent; and that AMWA support access to abortion without regard to economic status; and that AMWA oppose requirements in connection with licensing that are not called for by accepted medical standards.
1989.4 That AMWA support further research and possible utilization of this class of compound (RU486) under medical supervision as abortifacients and in its other medical indications; and That AMWA urge Roussel-Uclaf to submit RU486 to the FDA to begin the process of approval of RU486 for use in the United States.
1990.1 That AMWA encourage the President of AMWA to congratulate Governors Andrus and Roemer's efforts to defend reproductive freedom and promote women's health in these difficult times.
1991.1 That AMWA provide leadership in the defense of reproductive rights of women; and That AMWA designate official representation of AMWA members at key meetings and on consensus committees for the protection of women's reproductive rights.   That AMWA oppose laws which criminalize abortion in legislatures and courts, and request the support of this opposition of the AMA and the State Medical Societies of all states where such legislation is threatened or enacted.
1991.3 That AMWA will not hold conferences, annual meetings, interim meetings, or board of directors retreats in states or other jurisdictions which by legislation have significantly limited access to the full range of informational and reproductive services.
1991.4 That AMWA reaffirm its support for research, testing, and introduction of RU486 in the United States for all of its therapeutic uses; and That AMWA communicate its strong support of RU486 to Roussel-Uclaf Hoechst AG, and Hoechst Celanese and the appropriate American authorities.
1992.1 That AMWA work with the Council of Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology and with the American Academy of Family Physicians to ensure that residents trained in gynecology and family practice are capable of performing abortions and of complete pre- and post-abortion management and counseling.
1992.2 That AMWA work with curriculum establishing bodies to ensure that all candidates for MD or DO degrees understand abortion, appreciate access issues, provide factual information to patients regardless of personal belief, and competently manage associated complications; and That AMWA create learning objectives for third-year medical students regarding the epidemiology of, indications for, performance of, and management surrounding abortion.
1993.1 That the following conditions be observed in clinical trials of RU486: (1) a wide variety of physicians be included, including internists and family practitioners; (2) the physician should be able to perform a suction abortion in his or her office or work with a practitioner who can do so; (3) that emergency services be available; (4) that appropriate counseling services be available, including alternatives and future family planning; and That licensing of an American firm to produce RU486 should proceed promptly.
1993.2 That AMWA support the coverage of abortion as a pregnancy related service and work with the Administration and the Congress to ensure the inclusion of this service in the Administration's Health Care Reform package. That AMWA take steps to support efforts to make abortions safe, legal, accessible, and rare.
1995.1 That AMWA oppose federal legislation banning the dilation and extraction method (D&X) or any other medical procedure determined to be of benefit to patients.
