Amendment Marks Next Step Towards Lifting Cuba Sanctions
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House today approved an
amendment, sponsored by Congressman Jerry Moran, to ease travel
restrictions to Cuba. This amendment, which passed by a vote of 240
to 186, is the next step in lifting sanctions against Cuba.
“Today’s vote reaffirms the strong support we have in the House to reform our trade policy towards Cuba,” Moran said. One year ago, a Moran-sponsored amendment, allowing sales of food and medicine to Cuba, passed the House 301-116. Today’s amendment would lift the ban on travel by U.S. citizens to Cuba. “The Cuban people need more than access to our agricultural products – they need money to buy them,” Moran said. “Allowing travel from the U.S. would not only put money in the pockets of Cuban citizens, but it would expose them to our people and the freedom we enjoy.” For more information, contact Congressman Moran at (202) 225-2715 or visit his web page at www.house.gov/moranks01/.
