Your Health ![]() Affordable Prescription Drugs Prescription drugs aren't a luxury — but sometimes they cost as
much Prescription drugs —although costly—are an essential part of health care. Medicare already provides health insurance to more than 34 million Americans age 65 and over, as well as over 5 million younger people with disabilities. Where we stand on Medicare covering prescriptions Let's ask ourselves, isn't it time that those who use medicines most, Americans 65 and over, get the kind of drug coverage and volume discounts most other Americans with health insurance take for granted? Of course it is. And if you're already enrolled in Medicare, shouldn't you be able to choose to pay an extra Medicare premium for dependable and affordable prescription coverage? Absolutely. But, it would be up to you. We believe you should have that choice. This year, AARP is asking its members to join us in asking Congress to put aside enough money from our record budget surpluses and other sources to fund the prescription drug coverage in Medicare promised during last year's election. As officials in Washington continue to debate this issue, AARP is working to make sure that Medicare covers prescription drugs so that they are affordable to all beneficiaries.
