Prescription Drugs Aren't a Luxury—They Just Cost As Much.

Medicare doesn't cover prescription drugs, leaving many older people struggling to pay the skyrocketing cost of drugs on their own. Tell Congress it's time to add prescription drug coverage to Medicare.

Isn't it strange that the health program for Americans over 65 and those with disabilities doesn't pay for such an essential part of good medical treatment?

Younger people take it for granted that their health plans cover prescription drugs. But older Americans are still waiting for Congress and the President to add drug coverage to Medicare. As a result, Americans over 65—the group that relies on prescription drugs the most—are the most likely not to have drug coverage to help pay for medications.

Contact your members of Congress and the President today.

Add your voice to AARP's. Tell them:

  • I want you to support adding prescription drug coverage to Medicare that people can choose to participate in and will think is a good deal.
  • Please make real progress that will help people with Medicare this year, especially those who need it most.

Only Congress and the President can add Medicare's missing piece.

This problem has been discussed on Capitol Hill long enough. Now it's time for our elected leaders to keep their promises and take action by enacting Medicare drug coverage that is voluntary and affordable. People who like the drug coverage they have now should be allowed to keep it, but all people with Medicare should have the choice of affordable drug coverage through Medicare.

Change is possible if we stand together.

Some elected leaders say that we can't afford Medicare drug coverage. But our nation has a long history of rising to challenges and solving serious problems. We can find the resources. It is often simply a matter of setting our priorities.

Industry groups have spent millions on high-priced lobbying, public relations, and political campaigns to block Medicare prescription drugs and preserve their profits. But we can challenge their influence if we make our voices heard. Speaking as one, we can demand that our elected leaders make this a priority. If they hear from enough of the voters they represent, they will respond. It all begins with you.
