[THOMPSON - says the drug appears to change the odds for patients.] [Leukemia PATIENT, National Cancer Institute Richard KLAUSNER - comment on the drug.] [Oregon Health Sciences University Dr. Brian DRUKER - cites the lack of insurance coverage for the drug.]

(Studio: Peter Jennings) The fact that patients over 65 will not have access to Gleevec because Medicare does not pay for prescription drugs noted. [KLAUSNER - says Medicare rules will have to be evaluated.]

(Studio: Peter Jennings, Boston: Tim Johnson) The significance of this cancer drug in that it targets cancer cells alone and the issue of pressure on insurance and Medicare to pay for it discussed.
