BODY: Legislation designed to restrict predatory lending practices, expand consumer protections, and
strengthen enforcement of existing protections has been introduced in the US
Senate. "The Predatory Lending Consumer Protection Act of
2002," introduced by Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, a Maryland Democrat, and
cosponsored by Democratic senators Edward Kennedy and John Kerry of
Massachusetts, would enhance civil remedies and statutory penalties.
