Merchant Marine to review proposals for reauthorization of the
Maritime Security Program (MSP), which provides Government
subsidies to ensure preservation of a U.S.-flag merchant shipping fleet
available to meet national
security and military sealift needs.
Examines a proposal to relax current U.S.
citizenship requirements for companies owning and operating vessels which
participate in MSP, in order to allow companies that are foreign-owned but have
a majority of corporate officers who are U.S. citizens to participate in MSP.
