My job is voucher assistant with a program that provides child care
assistance for families who are income eligible. What I see everyday are
families who want to work and provide a decent life style for their
families and it is very difficult for them to do this because so many of
them are not educated or trained well enough to secure higher paying jobs.
A lot of our clients are also single parents struggling to provide.
Because the jobs they have are so low paying, I am sure that their need
for other types of assistance is a must - such as food stamps, health
services and educational programs. The success stories we have had and the
turning around point has come about when the parents were able to get more
education and training and therefore, make better wages. Being able to
provide quality childcare services for our families and helping them to
help themselves during difficult times is what it's all about in my
program. I feel that it is very important to maintain the Child Care and
Development Grant as a separate program when reauthorizing it in
conjunction with TANF. I urge you to fully fund TANF and the Child Care
and Development Fund. |
