WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback today announced that U.S. Sens. Trent Lott, Charles Grassley and Larry Craig, along with 17 other senators, are now cosponsors of the Brownback-Landrieu Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2001 (S. 1899). "Efforts to create human beings by cloning mark a new and decisive step toward turning human reproduction into a manufacturing process in which children are made in laboratories to preordained specifications," Brownback said.

"Science continues to prove that human cloning is unnecessary. We can find cures for the many diseases that plague humanity without creating human clones. "There is no need for cloning technology to ever be used with humans - whether for reproductive purposes or for destructive research purposes," Brownback said.

The Brownback-Landrieu Human Cloning Prohibition Act would ban all human cloning.

Cosponsors of S. 1899 include:

Sen. Robert Bennet Sen. Tim Hutchinson Sen. Christopher Bond Sen. James Inhofe Sen. Jim Bunning Sen. Jon Kyl Sen. Larry Craig Sen. Mary Landrieu Sen. Michael DeWine Sen. Trent Lott Sen. John Ensign Sen. Rick Santorum Sen. Charles Grassley Sen. Jeff Sessions Sen. Judd Gregg Sen. Richard Shelby Sen. Chuck Hagel Sen. Bob Smith Sen. Jesse Helms Sen. George Voinovich
