FARM BILL MEETINGS CONTINUE
Moran Pushes for Inclusion of Biofuels Provisions

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jerry Moran met throughout this past weekend with Senate and House Conference Committee members in negotiations on the farm bill.  During the weekend meetings, Moran focused his efforts on strengthening provisions for production of ethanol and soy diesel.  Earlier this year, Moran introduced legislation that would extend and expand a program that provides incentives to small producers of ethanol and biodiesel.

“Ethanol and bioenergy are important to the future of agriculture,” Moran said.  “The farm bill should take steps to promote these markets.  When a farm bill is passed, it needs to include these provisions.”

Members worked through the weekend, but made no major breakthroughs in negotiations. Monday marked the beginning of the third month of Conference Committee negotiations over the farm bill.

“I think the conference has made as much progress as possible in resolving the differences between the Senate and House versions of the bill,” Moran said.  “Little more progress will be made until Senator Daschle decides it’s time for a farm bill to pass.  This farm bill isn’t about Republicans or Democrats; it isn’t about a Senate bill or a House bill; it’s about a crafting a good bill which will help farmers and ranchers keep their farms in business.  We need to set aside politics and pass a farm bill now.”
