"Last year in the House Agriculture
Committee, we wrote a fair and balanced new Farm Bill that would truly
help our producers continue providing the food and fiber on which our
nation depends. While this bill was passed overwhelmingly by the
House of Representatives in October, the Senate in February 2002
unfortunately approved a flawed version of the Farm Bill that would hurt
many Arkansas farmers. "On Monday, April 8, Congressmen Charles Stenholm, Marion Berry, and Max Sandlin will be joining me in Texarkana, El Dorado, Lake Village and Pine Bluff to discuss the current status of the Farm Bill with members of the agriculture community throughout Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District. Congressman Stenholm, one of the mostly highly respected voices for agriculture in the United States Congress, is currently serving as a member of the House-Senate conference committee charged with ironing out the differences to finalize this year’s Farm Bill. "Our farm families are anxiously awaiting the enactment of this landmark policy, and we will continue fighting to see that this new farm policy is enacted as soon as possible. As the negotiations on the Farm Bill continue, we are committed to working hard to see that the final measure is one that is good for Arkansas and good for America. There has never been a more critical time for our agriculture community, and this legislation is vital to the livelihoods of our farm families as well as the economy of the Fourth District and our state." | ||||
On Tuesday, April 2,
Congressman Ross hosted a Women’s Business Roundtable in Hot Springs to
highlight areas of concern for professional women in Arkansas. About 30
local businesswomen attended the informal discussion that included a panel
of several small business and economic development entities. Members of
the panel, which included representatives from the Arkansas Enterprise
Group, Arkansas Women’s Business Development Center, Arkansas Capital
Corporation Group, Arkansas Small Business Development Center, Arkansas
Department of Economic Development, Arkansas Procurement Assistance
Center, Internal Revenue Service, and National Federation of Independent
Business, answered questions on topics such as payroll, health insurance,
tax-related issues, and how to obtain small business loans.
