Farm Bill Conferees Set to Meet this Wednesday

The first formal meeting of the farm bill conference committee has been set for this Wednesday, March 13. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-TX) will serve as the chairman of this conference committee (the House and Senate alternate who chairs conference committees.) Upon announcing the March 13 meeting, Chairman Combest said, "I am convinced we can and must work to have an agreement within reach for the 2002 crop year -- and for producers, the need grows more critical each day. There are clear differences between the two farm bill versions, but House and Senate conferees are joined in the commitment to do the work needed to produce a good bill."

This means it's extremely important to keep up the pressure on dairy issues. For details on the conference provisions, members can click here to review Alert 02-04. For a list of the farm bill conferees, click here. ###
