NAWG Applauds Passage of Farm Bill in House, Calls on Senate for Prompt Action
May 07, 2002

The National Association of Wheat Growers expressed its appreciation to the House of Representatives for its 280-141 vote in support of America’s farmers.

"This bill provides an important safety net for American farmers,” said Gary Broyles, NAWG president. “We are grateful that the House took prompt action and passed a bill that will have a positive effect on all of rural America.”

The conference report, a compromise of the House and Senate bills, covers a wide range of issues that support America’s farmers and the rural economy. Just as important, it ensures United States consumers of a safe, plentiful, and inexpensive food supply.

The President has pledged that he will sign the farm bill. The producer members of NAWG call on Members of the Senate to conduct debate consistent with their time agreement and vote to pass this bill so that it can be signed into law and implemented.

“The time is right to get this accomplished,” said Mark Gage, NAWG Vice-President. “We are pleased that the hard work done on the farm bill has resulted in passage that will benefit our producers.”
