NAWG
Joins Letter on Planting Flexibility May
24, 2002
NAWG joined several other commodity groups on a letter requesting
favorable treatment for acres that were diverted from program crops to
other uses. The letter pointed out that those who flexed acres into other
crops were following the intent of the 1996 farm bill, and should not lose
those base acres in the updating process for the 2002 law. Such a result
would certainly influence planting decisions over the period of the new
law, and interfere with market signals, which should dictate those
decisions.
In addition to NAWG, the letter was signed by the American Farm Bureau
Federation, the National Barley Growers Association, the National Farmers
Union, the National Sunflowers Association, the U.S. Canola Association,
and the U.S. Rice Producers' Group. |
