Senate Must Complete Farm Bill This Week
December 05, 2001

Washington, D.C. - House Agriculture Committee Chairman Larry Combest (R-Texas) today strongly urged Senators Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Tom Harkin (D-IA) to complete Senate work on a farm bill this week.

"Farmers have waited three weeks for the Senate's Majority Leader Daschle and Ag Chairman Harkin to bring their own farm bill to final passage. The Senate's bill has been ready since November 15, and after three week's delay, it must be completed this week. It has been reported to me that the Senate will not do significant work on their farm bill until next week. That is unconscionable.

The Senate must complete their bill this week, and move immediately to reconcile differences with the House farm bill we sent them two months ago on October 5 so that farmers will have a much-needed new farm bill signed into law by the president this year."
