NCBA
Urges Producers to Discuss Importance of Farm Bill with
Congressional Representatives
The House
of Representatives will debate the Farm Bill on the House Floor on October 3. NCBA sent a
letter to the House Leadership urging immediate action on the
Farm Bill.
NCBA
believes this nation must have farm policy that provides a
balanced approach to addressing the needs of producers and the
protection of our nations natural resources. H.R. 2646, the
Farm Security Act of 2001, does just that.
“Most members will
return to their districts for the rest of this week which
creates a great opportunity for producers to discuss
agricultural issues facing Congress, especially the Farm
Bill,” said Bryan Dierlam, NCBA’s director of agricultural
policy.
“Please
urge your Member of Congress to oppose the Kind amendment to
the Farm Bill,” Dierlam said. “Additionally, please
ask them to support the Farm Bill as passed by the House
Agriculture Committee.”
This
important legislation balances the needs of an economically
sensitive agriculture economy with the need to make
investments in conserving, protecting and enhancing our
natural resources.
It
continues the safety net of previous Farm Bill’s without
placing that cost on the backs of U.S. livestock producers. In
addition, H.R. 2646 makes important investments in rural
development, research and export market
development.
