An amendment to the Farm Bill (S. 1731), offered by Senator Paul
Wellstone (D-MN), would have limited the amount of federal subsidies
that Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) could receive.
In addition to limiting the amount of the subsidy, the amendment
would have prohibited subsidies to new or expanded CAFOs and CAFOs
located in floodplains. It also would have required facilities that
receive subsidies to prepare plans for managing their animal waste.
The amendment failed by a vote of 44-52.
YES was the pro-environment vote.
