AASHTO Hosts
Washington Briefing
Transportation security, reauthorization and restoration of a
proposed $8.6 billion cut in federal-aid highway funding are on the agenda
for AASHTO's annual Washington Briefing, being held February 27- March
1.
Appearing at the
meeting are Michigan Governor John Engler, Chairmanof the National
Governors' Association, Deputy U.S. Secretary of Transportation Michael
Jackson, Federal Highway Administrator Mary Peters and Motor Carrier
Safety Administration Administrator Joe Clapp. Also briefing
transportation officials are professional staff members from House and
Senate authorizing, budget and appropriations
committees.
AASHTO
President Brad Mallory, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation, welcomed delegates to the meeting Wednesday saying, "Your
voices are greatly needed if we are to prevail in our efforts to sustain
federal highway funding levels in the last year of TEA-21 at a level which
the Highway Trust Fund can support and which transportation greatly
needs."
