National Conference on Transportation & the
Washington, D.C. [April 29, 2002]—The American Road and Transportation Builders Association's Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) will conduct a "National Conference on Transportation and the U.S. Economy" June 25 at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Building in Washington, D.C. The conference, which will kick off "Transportation Makes America Work! Day," is co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's National Chamber Foundation and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). The "National Conference on Transportation and the Economy" will draw public and policymaker attention to the critical relationship between the nation's transportation infrastructure network and the American economy. It will help outline the economic rationale for increased federal investment in highway, mass transit and airport capital improvement programs as part of TEA-21 and AIR-21 reauthorization in 2003. Members of Congress, congressional staff, corporate leaders, Washington media, administration officials, state and local officials and other top transportation policy makers are expected to attend. Other speakers will include top Bush Administration officials, congressional leaders, CEO's from major U.S. corporations, development and transportation logistics experts and noted economists. Following the conference, the ARTBA-TDF will host a separate gala reception and dinner at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center to celebrate ARTBA's 100th Anniversary of service to the transportation construction industry and the nation. The ARTBA-TDF, a tax-exempt entity created in 1985, sponsors research and education programs designed to improve the nation's transportation systems and increase public knowledge on critical transportation construction and development issues. ###
