WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has
endorsed Gail Boliver (R-Marshalltown) in Iowa’s 4th
Congressional District Republican primary election. Boliver
consistently takes balanced, principled stances on clean air,
safe drinking water, and open space issues. His opponent, U.S.
Rep. Tom Latham (R-Alexander) has disappointed Iowa voters by
repeatedly opposing commonsense environmental protections
while earning an appalling lifetime score of seven percent on
LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.
"Tom Latham’s abysmal record in opposing legislation that
protects the health and quality of life of all Iowans makes it
vital that Iowa Republicans elect Gail Boliver, a leader who
is in touch with their values," said Betsy Loyless, LCV
political director. "The people of Iowa can count on Gail
Boliver to lead the fight to keep their air clean, their water
safe, and their open spaces protected."
Gail Boliver understands how important environmental and
public health isssues are to the people of the 4th district.
He is in favor of preserving delicate wetlands and encouraging
farmers to protect open space and water quality. Boliver
believes that enforcing the Clean Water Act and making sure
factory livestock farms comply with existing law to protect
public drinking water should be a top priority for Congress.
He also supports increasing fuel efficiency standards to
reduce the harmful auto emissions that cause air pollution and
smog.
Gail Boliver is LCV's 19th announced endorsement of the
2002 election cycle. For more information on LCV’s endorsed
