WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has
endorsed U.S. Rep. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) in his race to continue
representing New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District. Udall’s
perfect score of 100 percent on LCV’s 2001 National
Environmental Scorecard and his consistent, principled
leadership on clean air, safe drinking water, and open space
issues make him an invaluable environmental leader in
Congress.
"Tom Udall’s exceptional pro-environment record in Congress
demands that LCV do all we can to make sure he stays where he
belongs, fighting for northern New Mexico’s interests on
Capitol Hill," said Betsy Loyless, LCV political director.
"The people of New Mexico can count on Tom Udall to lead the
fight to keep their air and water clean and their open spaces
protected."
During Udall’s three years in Congress, he has consistently
championed commonsense environmental measures that protect the
health and quality of life of the people of New Mexico. Udall
co-authored the a bill to provide $750 million annually to
Native American Tribes and states to improve drinking water
quality in small, rural communities. He also strongly supports
investment in higher fuel efficiency standards for cars and
trucks and increased clean, renewable energy sources. Udall’s
lifetime LCV score is 93 percent.
