WASHINGTON – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has
endorsed U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) for re-election in his
race to continue representing Illinois’ 10th Congressional
District. Kirk earned a 71 percent on LCV’s 2001 National
Environmental Scorecard and has consistently worked to
keep Illinois’ air clean, its water safe, and its open spaces
protected. Kirk’s score is almost twice the 36 percent
average earned by freshman Members of the House.
“Mark Kirk’s efforts to protect families from the harmful
effects of toxic pollution and his defense of America’s
wilderness demand that LCV make sure he stays right where he
belongs, fighting for Illinois’ interests on Capitol Hill,”
said Betsy Loyless, LCV political director. “The people
of Illinois can count on Mark Kirk to protect their right to a
clean, healthy and sustainable environment.”
Mark Kirk has consistently fought for commonsense measures
that protect the health and quality of life of Illinois
families. Kirk introduced a bill to prevent increased levels
of dangerous mercury pollution from being released into the
Great Lakes. He also voted to prohibit drilling for oil and
gas in the Great Lakes. In addition, Kirk voted to
increase automobile fuel efficiency standards in order to
reduce the amount of harmful pollution that is released into
Illinois’ air and reduce U.S. oil consumption.
