WASHINGTON - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has
endorsed Bill Bradbury (D-OR) in his bid to replace Gordon
Smith in the U.S. Senate.
"Bill Bradbury is the kind of environmental leader who
recognizes that protecting Oregon’s natural resources requires
principled action, not just recycled rhetoric," said Deb
Callahan, LCV president. "Unlike Gordon Smith, the people of
Oregon can rely on Bill Bradbury to fight in the Senate to
keep their air clean, their water safe, and their open spaces
protected."
Bradbury has been committed to protecting Oregon’s
environment throughout his tenure in public office. As a state
senator, he voted to extend tax credits to promote the use of
renewable energy in Oregon homes and worked to implement a
plan to increase energy conservation statewide. He worked to
keep communities clean by cracking down on the disposal of
hazardous materials and holding polluters responsible for
cleaning up toxic waste. Bradbury also fought to provide
businesses with tax credits for improving Oregon’s river and
stream banks and worked to improve the quality of drinking
water by helping to create Oregon’s Drinking Water Quality
Act. In addition, he drafted and sponsored the Oregon Ocean
Plan, which protects Oregon’s coastline from offshore drilling
and development.
As a member of the U.S. Senate, Bradbury will work to make
sure polluters, not taxpayers, pay to clean up hazardous
waste. He supports a greater emphasis on renewable energy
sources, such as solar, wind and geothermal power. He also
supports higher fuel efficiency standards for cars and light
trucks, and increasing tax incentives for the purchase and
production of energy-efficient vehicles.
